UKTA Black Belt Grading, Glasgow 7th September

Master Ri Yong Sok Obituary  

Miller TKD has received news of the sad passing of Senior Master Ri Yong Sok VIII, Chairman of ITF Technical Committee. Master Ri was killed in a car accident while visiting the family of his wife on 12th July.

He will be a massive loss to all of ITF and we will miss him greatly. Rest in Peace.

 

Scottish Open 2008

The Scottish Open took place in Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on Saturday 21st June. Our medallists were:

Carl Davis - Gold in 3/4Dan Patterns, Gold in Sparring, Bronze in Power

Ricky De Winton - Gold in Sparring, Silver in Pattern, Bronze in Power

Kirsty Miller - Silver in Sparring and Bronze in 2 Dan Patterns

Andrew Haynes - Bronze in 2 Dan Pattern

Don Ward - Gold in Veteran Power, Silver in Sparring

Alison Fisher - Silver in Veteran sparring

Paris Carbonari - Gold in children’s sparring

The next event is the Welsh Open at UWIC, Cardiff on Saturday 4th October 2008. Remember - all spectators have free admission.

 

European Championships 2008  

 

Faye Miller, Kirsty Miller and Laura Morfee were all members of the England Squad at the European Adult and Junior Championships held in Porec, Croatia. Although no medals were won this year for RTA Didcot all three girls gave sterling performances and are looking forward to the Junior World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan during September.

 

Slovenia - Sun Open Braslovce

 

On the 11th April 2008 Master Gary Miller VII and five students from RTA Didcot departed sunny England for a sodden, rainy weekend in Slovenia . From start to finish the hospitality of our hosts was second to none. The group was picked up from Trieste in Italy and chauffeured all the way to Brasloviče where the competition was being held. Upon arrival in Trieste until our departure on Sunday it rained non-stop (The weather in the UK being excellent that weekend).

After our arrival at the hotel in we were greeted by Mr Emin Duracovic VI – the most senior Instructor in Slovenia . Eight countries were in attendance including 29 competitors from the Czech National Team as well as Austria, Bosnia, Croatia,

We ended the daywith Ricky De Winton taking Gold in 4th Dan Pattern & -78kg Sparring plus the Overall Best Male. Carl Davis won Gold in -71kg Sparring and Silver in 3rd Dan Pattern. Kirsty Miller picked up Silver in 2nd Dan Pattern & Bronze in -52kg Sparring. Although there were no medals won, both Faye Miller and Andy Haynes had very good performances.

After the event we joined our hosts from Sun Braslovce TKD for dinner & pancakes in a local restaurant. A special mention goes to Sun TKD Instructor Mr Simon Jan on his recent promotion to 4Instructor Mr Simon Jan on his recent promotion to 4th Dan by Master Hwang Ho Yong VIII.

Miller TKD Secures Darbys Sponsorship

The Commercial Litigation team at Darbys Solicitors, :st="on"> Oxford, is providing Miller Tae Kwon-Do with financial support, for their participation in UK and international events including the European Championships in Croatia during May / June 2008.

 

Henry Mendus, Head of Commercial Litigation at the firm, presented a cheque to Kirsty Miller at their offices in New Inn Hall Street.

 

Henry said: “We are proud to team-up with this group, not only because it promotes fitness and strength of character. As litigators, we have much in common with these fighters, as perseverance and indomitable spirit are fundamental to Tae Kwon-Do. What’s more, we are keen to support members of our community and to see that Gary and his team excel in the future.”

 

UKTA 2008 English Open K2 Crawley

 

RTA Didcot and Oxford University Taekwon-Do both had resounding success at the English Open Championships at K2 Crawley. Didcot powered their way to 14 gold 2 silver and 13 bronze medals.

 

For Didcot TKD Ricky De Winton led the way with 2 Gold & 2 Bronze medals.

 

Carl Davis, Phillipa Pearce and Alison Fisher also won 2 Gold. Oxford University student Valentina Iotchkova went one better winning 3 Gold medals and the overall black belt champion prize.

 

Other Gold medal winners were Kirsty Miller, Faye Miller, Liam Jones, Paris Carbonari , Sami McPherson and James Pearce.

 

Silver; Kirsty Miller and Rae Deane.

 

Bronze; Laura Morfee, Don Ward(x 3), Louise Morrow (2), Liam Miller, Ryan Morrow, Lyle Walker, Sami Mcpherson, Andrew Haynes.

 

Members are already working towards the Slovenia Open in April and the European Championships in Croatia in May.

 

Miller TKD Success at UKTA 2008 Black Belt Grading

 

Five members from RTA Didcot and Oxford University were just part of the 62 Instructors and students who have successfully passed thier Black Belt Grading under the watchful eye of GM Rhee Ki Ha in Glasgow over the weekend of 7th - 9th March. More than 110 UKTA members attended the pre-grading training course.

 

Andrew Tomkinson (Oxford Uni), Jamie Tuckwell, Jack Grant, Melinda Pitman & Joe Tuckwell (All RTA Didcot) succeeded in promotion to Il Dan (1st Dan).

 

Oxford Area Grading & Seminar March 2008

 

Senior Master John Williamson VIII from Elgin in Scotland presided over the area seminar and coloured belt grading at Wallingford on Sunday 2nd March. This was the first visit to the Oxfordshire Area by Master Williamson. Promoted RTA Didcot members were;Don Ward 1st Kup, Maciek Morozow 2nd Kup, Andy Strong 3rd Kup, Russell Brady 3rd Kup, Pippa Pearce 3rd Kup, James Pearce 6th Kup, Martin Wren 9th Kup.
