XVIth ITF World Championships

England ITF Taekwon-Do travelled to the Rusian city of St. Petersburg to complete four days of intense competition at the XVIth ITF World Championships. With a participation of over 600 competitors from 83 member countries this was the largest World Championships in ITF history.

Ricky De Winton won Silver in Team Power & Bronze in Team Special Technique. In individual sparring he won through 3 rounds before losing to Russia's Alexander Verner in the qtr. final. Sadly this was to be a repeat of the team sparring where England went out at the same stage to Silver medallists Croatia after good victories over Mongolia and Japan.

Kirsty Miller was a member of the England ladies that lost out to Canada in team sparring and Japan in Team Pattern. Also unlucky in the individual pattern she narrowly missed a medal placing, losing to Russia at the qtr. final stage.

Another highlight for Didcot was Master Gary Miller being selected as centre ring referee for the individual & team sparring final matches. His experienced and comfortable manner has made him a popular figure among the international coaches.
